Yes. I have a run with a wire top now, and I saw the hawk waiting at the top, trying to get them once. That's to bad. Does he still come around sometimes?

I'm sorry! Do you free range your chickens? We see a lot of hawks. And we've had two attempts on our chickens (that we've seen) and we've lost one that we attribute to hawk attack (but we were out at the time it happened).

Wow. What predators got into your coop?Yup. I've actually lost more in "secure" coops at night than I have free ranging during the day though.

Nice. Yes you should get back into it. Maybe you could try out some new breeds. =)Hey! Been reading through this thread.....great pics and lots of interest. We are thinking of getting chickens again. Had a great bunch a few years ago. We hatched our own, actually hand tamed about 50 chicks, kept about 40, sold the extras off, kept the chickens just for eggs and amusement. We had a really fun time raising them for about three years. Started loosing some to a hawk in the area, traded some off to a friend and ended up wanting to start fresh so sold off the whole bunch. It's been a while but I think I got hurt pretty bad which helped us to consider selling them off. We did plan to start back up the following spring and for some reason didn't. We had RIR, Barred Rocks/Marans mixed/, Orpington's, Black Sex Link, Silkies, Polish & the prettiest little Banty Rooster. Was alot of fun and a good way to meet people....we sold some eggs. Sure would like to do it again starting this spring. Really enjoying this thread.

Oh, okay.I forgot to close the coop one night and something took two of my laying hens. Another time last year, something reached into the coop and killed one of my hens and bloodied the comb of my roo at the time. Otherwise, I've had two WL hens decide to sleep in the woods.
