MKK Farms. Updates, pics, and stories!

I think it's funny how we kind of read into what other ppl type what we would feel if we were the one typing it. =)

Whenever you here something that isn't quite perfect you always get all sad.

:p
Yeah I guess :P lol

I sold my cockerel so now I have one roo only, Marius.

One of my chickens got its leg broken, I'm not quite sure what to do. Just give it food and water and let it limp around?

How do I do that? Haven't figured it out yet?
You can do it through your profile. At the top right, click on the rectangle that says "my profile".
At the top left, you will see your current avatar; under that, click where it says, "replace avatar", then it's just like posting a picture. =)

I hope your hens are happy with just one roo. I understand having several roos fighting over them can cause them stress and that can cause them not to lay or not to lay as much.

I think (no expert, but I want to help out, if I can) I think I would try to wrap the leg in something to keep the bone in the position it's supposed to be in and in hopes that it would help the chicken not to be in as much pain (kind of like a cast, but not nearly as stiff).
I think I would also separate it from the rest of the flock.
If I could, I think I would take one or two of the nicer chickens and/or ones that are already higher on the pecking order (b/c I wouldn't want lower birds to use the injury to promote their position in the pecking order) and put them with her so she's not alone.
Otherwise, yes, I would let her hobble around a small, comfortable space like that with friends.
I think that whatever you usually feed them and additional free choice calcium would be a good idea. I would definitely give her an egg scrambled with the shell and mixed in yogurt and add some oregano, garlic, coconut oil, echinecea (sp), all or some of those to help her immune system so she doesn't end up getting an infection, just in case.
Like I said, I'm no expert, so I think you should talk to somebody who knows more than us. I, personally, would go to the NCK thread and maybe ask around on PMs about someone specific that other members seek out for advice in these situations.
