Hi all! Just wanted to thank everyone for providing me with my Chicken Coop Design Inspiration. I thought I would post the design and construction of my Chicken Coop here to hopefully inspire other people if they are looking for ideas. Below is an initial Design Concept Sheet. Thanks for looking.

And here are some Construction shots. Sorry I'm not a camera man or a carpenter so if you see some offending construction issues / wrong photo techniques please avert your eyes. So far this design was really fun. The coop is being constructed on an older existing Dog Kennel Slab. It is heavily sloped.

As far as cost My initial goal was to keep it reasonably cheap. My dad purchased a pile of random pieces of lumber at Lowes at a steep discount. Basically returned wood from projects and unsold lumber. They will place the lumber outside and put a price on it. You can also negotiate on the price. Cedar is notoriously expensive and doesn't fit well into a "budget" design however it is superior to other wood for longevity. I discovered in the pile of lumber there were Fencing boards made from Cedar and Treated wood. The size of the coop lended itself well to using the Picket fence boards as a siding. I would estimate the total cost to be around $700.00 This number could easily be reduced by substituting various materials.

I designed this coop using Google Sketchup. It helped tremendously to build the coop in 3d and make numerous changes to the design without costing anything but time. It's really gratifying to see it go from a computer to real life.

Something else I realized when researching Chicken Coop Designs was that most Chicken Coops only have one clean out door. This Coop's interior size is 5ft x 5ft basically a square vs the more common rectangle designs. I couldn't see cleaning out the coop with one clean out door and being able to reach the opposite side. I added a second clean out door for the thorough cleaning of the coop.
