Glad this popped up....Hi Victoria, it’s been awhile, so I’m hoping that you still monitor this thread. I’m thinking of trying your design for the guinea hoop coop, and wonder how it’s held up. What happens with snow and ice storms? Thanks for any update!
Now it's been more than a year:Glad this popped up....
tho @Victoria-nola hasn't been around for about 6 months, and doesn't have ice and snow to contend with.....maybe that tag will rouse her back here.
the tarps I got at the big box stores lasted 6 monthsLove this !! In process of building a guinea house and will be attaching a run to it !
I had a greenhouse style coop run for chickens and guinea and the snow collapsed it bc of the weight !! The metal was not strong enough to handle several feet of snow on top of it and crumpled the steel poles like popsickle sticks
My question to you is this .... what kind of tarp are you using that the wind and sun is not destroying that u don’t have to change every little bit bc I have not found one yet to withstand weather elements ?? How are you tying down to avoid wind from ripping it up b I am doing something so wrong ???
Plz help female with lots of chickens and guineas in distress and doesn’t have time for do overs
Thanks for ur time in advance

Good to hear; I’m still thinking of making something similar. Thanks for the update!Just saw this, haven't been around much in a long while. It's held up really well! However, we don't get much snow or ice in our location in Southwest Mississippi. However, a couple of years ago we did get 8" of snow that stuck for a week, and the structure wasn't affected in the least. It's still going totally strong. We need to replace the tarp on top, that's all.
Hey! I just got your message and replied to another person about it. It's holding up amazingly well. Unfortunately the guineas abandoned it. It's a long sad story and not their fault, and they would have stayed happy with it except for an unfortunate incident. They still go in there in bad storms and we have their water and grain in there, but they are roosting in the trees now. We've lost 2 that we know of to owls and no other nighttime predators, but we've lost many who were sitting on nests, and periodically have a spate of losses to the road. Anyway, the building itself is fantastic and I highty recommend it as a structure. It's been through near-hurricane winds and never noticed. Now it's been more than a year:

Sure wonder how that high hoop is holding up @Victoria-nola.

Sorry to hear that they abandoned it! Did a predator follow them in??? I have guineas now, but their coop is too small; I need to make something bigger... They are currently on a communal nest in the coop. I’ve been told that these communal nests often fail; hoping for the best!!!You're welcome!
