Modified Hoop Coop Design Development

Hi-- Did you get any keets? How did it go? --Victoria
p.s. Nevermind. I went and found your posts about the big nest and what happened. When I wrote what I did, I don't think I realized just how giant that was. That must have been horrible to deal with, but good on you for getting them in and incubating. I'm a major fan of guineas and I do think you're on the right track with them being willing to nest inside. Wishing you well.
Thanks Victoria-Nola! We’ve now hatched 46 eggs from that nest! I was sad that the flock didn’t get to be parents, and I’m sad for the two that still sit on the old eggs that I gave them, but it’s nice to have hatched so many keets! It’s also nice not having wild nests (at least as far as I know). We plan to keep 10 and add to this flock. I also plan to start on their new coop in a month, based on your design, so I hope that you’ll still be around BYCs!

I think you're right about your guineas desperately needing a better sex ratio. They naturally just mate one-one together. I just can't help but feel that size of a nest is dysfunctional. That would NEVER work in the wild. So yeah, they need to have a more natural flock. It's so not normal for guineas to kick some out of the flock, I don't think. So, hopefully the new additions will help heal the whole group. And yes, I'm here and will get your notification if you post with questions. I just LOVE what ya'll did with your chicken coop, would love to see photos if you have them posted anywhere.

Not sure who is still following this thread, but I wanted to add pictures of our guinea coop build, inspired by the @Victoria-nola design. We are not as ambitious - 8 x 16 coop planned and a bit lower in height, as I didn’t fancy working that high up to get the hardware cloth installed. We also put corner 4x4 posts in concrete, as OK gets very windy. We used hog panels (38” high) for the wall pieces, arched the cattle panels, and attached to 6’ T posts that had been driven in two feet deep. Attached side and arch panels to T posts with T post clips. This is where we are at now, and it already feels pretty stable, though nothing is attached to corner posts yet as we will need to slide hardware cloth between the post and panel... I don’t know whether we will use a cut hog panel for the ends - does anyone know how to cut this stuff???

Great! I already had an angle cutter for cutting tiles, so I got a metal cutting disk. Now I just need to try it out...
Woo hoo..... I bought one in anticipation of putting up fence using Cattle panels but I also want to build some raised beds... Aquaponics tubs.... and of course a new poultry house.

My forte is steel I dont do so well hammering wood together... I can tear it down but no skills putting it together.

I can weld in a pinch.... but Give me wire I and I got it nailed. No pun intended. Thats why I loved the OPs Modified Hoop coop ....
