Mods, just a suggestion. Something I've been thinking about

I had never been on a forum before BYC, and had no clue what I was doing. I think a primer added to the FAQ's is great- but how do we get people to actually go read it?

Perhaps someone could make a smiley that said, "Learn about our Forum - Read the BYC Primer" and we could post it whenever we welcome a newbie to the forum?

It could even come with a link so all they would have to do is click on it?

But the hard part is still to actually get people to WANT to look at them all. Make it something fun? Make it sound exciting?
I don't know, that thread of mine died pretty fast and most of the posts were veterans, of course. I don't want new members to feel
as though they are being singled out, even though they are. It's not very welcoming.

I mostly wish there was some way to convince people to explore more of the forum. I was such a numpty that I never even saw the New Member Introductions section.

It's a little late now.....

You guys build it and I'll work to get it in front of peeps, for example:

In the "welcome to BYC" email when the password is send.

In the "required reading section"

etc.

Okay, let me just hijack this thread for a second -- I promise I won't ramble on for more than 20 pages

Nifty, and all you moderators, this was the first forum I had ever been on for any subject, and, yeah, it was a little confusing because I have the paws of a dinosaur and a lot of gray hair, but anytime I have gotten lost someone has reached out and given me a helping hand, be it moderator or one of the peeps.

Since I started here, I've gone to other forums (fora???), and none of them are nearly as user friendly as this one!!! As a result, I am now labelled "overrun with chickens" and I haven't even got my little chicken tractor finished yet!

So, Nifty, is your forum format copyrighted? Can I suggest it to my other forum buddies?

Whether you say yes or no, you get kudos from me!

Wow, thanks for the great comments possumqueen!

Nope, not copyrighted, but almost impossible to duplicate!

We put a LOT of effort into the technology and the systems, but we put even more effort into the personal side of the community and the organization, rules, and enforcement of those rules. We have the world's best moderation team that are like family and they all love the community. And of course, we have the best community members in the world!!

So, you can see how all these wonderful things come together to make something magical, but not easy to duplicate.

I figured out everything very quickly when I joined. I think that my fast learning can at least partly be credited to my blogging!

I'd also like to add that this is by far the most user friendly chicken forum I'm on (you can tell by my post count)!
