I counted 30 of them over our house one evening.

Pretty freaky because most of them are HUGE and they just slowly glide around...

Mom, had 6 in the dead pine tree in her front yard not too long ago.

They are just hanging out.

We are between two dumps and a composting ''facility." (read: another dump)
I am more concerned ablout our water than the hords of vultures around here.
now, the flies are just nasty.
However knowing that our time is near, I won't worry about eating that bag of bugles,a bag of twizzlers and a cola for dinner last night...unless that's what gets me.

DON"T eat that Ice cream!!!

They are JUST birds. Your oak looked like a good spot to hang out! If you're freaked, definitely take a nap, watch some TV or have yourself some bonbons as another poster mentioned!!

It will be OK!

ROFLMBO here are they lyrics to that one in case someone really wants to try hard to get it out of your brain.....NOT!!!

We're your friends
We're your friends
We're your friends to the bitter end

When you're are down (when you are down)
Who comes around (ooh comes around)
To pluck you up (to pluck you up)
When you are down (when you are downnnnn)
And when you're outside, looking in
Who's there to open the door?
That's what friends are for!

Who's always eager to extend
A friendly claw?
That's what friends are for!

And when you're lost in dire need
Who's at your side at lightning speed?
We're friends of every creature
Comin' down the pike
In fact we never met an animal
We didn't like, didn't like

So you can see (sung like a round)
We're friends in need
And friends in need
Are friends indeed
We'll keep you safe
In the jungle forevermore
That's what friends are for!

Agreed.
There's a house a mile from the airport that has a eucalyptus tree that is always loaded with vultures. They complain about all the poop. Like 50 or more vultures, every day. They roost there. They love the airport. The heat from the tarmac supposedly creates great updrafts. Wonder if the Marine Base gets vulture sky-kill.

Anyways, that's the tallest tree withing a mile of the airport, that's why they choose it.

Lets fly over to the east side of the jungle and see whats over there.....HEYYYYYYY, Look Whats coming ouuuurrr wayyyyyy?

Oh they don't make movies like that any more!

Oh Ranchie, you would have a cow if you were to see all the ones that perch and sun themselves on my fence! At times we have up to 9 or 10 at a time. You can really see their size when they stretch out. Each fence rail is 8 ft and they just about make when they have their wings out to the sides!

My daughter calls them Natures Clean Up Crew aka the Clean Up Crews! It is such a habit now to call the the clean up crews.

We had a Black Vulture here a few days ago, he was beautiful! He was injured and couldn't fly. He sure was fast on the ground though!

No worries, they just like your tree!

So the OP posted this as a joke, right? Or is that wrong? Either way, it wasn't an omen, just a good photo op. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I see that a lot after it rains, when they're drying off. Sometimes they'll even sit in the front pasture, wings spread on hot days. What's really cool is there is a tower across the road from my grandparent's place where the vultures roost at night. It's fun to watch and count them as they come in. I usually stop counting early on, since I have things to do, but I've counted over 80 before. They're absolutely gorgeous . . . I love them, and I'll take a hundred in a tree over one hawk any day.

Here are some shots we took after a rain . . . there were about a dozen, enjoying the sun.
