Good morning everyone
I live on a small community farm and our landlord has placed loose rat poison blocks around the edge of the barn.
We have chickens in a coop and also a cat and a few dogs live here so we want to get rid of this and use a solar powered sonic type to keep the yard clear of moles and rats

Any advice as to which one is best and will not affect the birds or pets, please?
Thanks in advance

Ya, dont waist your time and money, they dont work! Would be nice if they did. I myself use poison (onebite II rat bars) for rats in all sheds and storage buildings/shops, and toss the dead I find in the trash.

I like to use water traps that reset themselves. Bit of work building them but they kill and kill and kill.

Two trap types come to mind, putting something that floats in a bucket with a bowl that can float too. Fill the bowl with food in the middle keeping it filled with food for a few days then you add water removing most of the floating stuff so is all sits much the same when it was dry as rats are cautious of change and it changing levels will put the smart ones off. Most rats will end up jumping in and sinking.

After that the harder but seems to get the smarter ones is a horizontal pipe on a hinge with a magnate on one end and bait on the other. The magnate holds it down and gives a false sturdy feel until it suddenly gives out dropping the rat into a bucket bellow. If built right it resets each time. A weight can be added between the bait and hinge to adjust its sensitivity by moving from one side to the other.

Rats are very smart, and only poison, changed out occasionally, will really eliminate them. BUT the bait needs to be placed carefully so only rodents can get into the bait station, and none can be dragged out. No way can bait be just set around outside!
Most rodents will go back to their burrows and die there, so few bodies will be left outside. Any found must go in the garbage, wrapped, or be safely disposed of.
Wear gloves, pick up those bait blocks, and get them in proper bait stations.
Forget about the solar powered whatever, and get bait stations instead.
Also, manage all animal feed so there's less to attract the rodents.

Thanks everyone. Poison is left where pets and kids get to it so was lokking for an alternative to give landlord.
