Molting chicken?

I just got my first batch of chicks this spring and one of them (buff orpington) seems to have started molting. Its starting to get cold and none of the other chickens are losing their feathers. Is this the usual time for the spring chicks to start molting?will she be ok in cold weather until they grow back?

Mine all did a mini molt at that age last year. They just lost their neck and head feathers. They hung around in more sheltered areas during that time to keep warm.
This year's new hens aren't doing the mini molt... at least not yet.

What you are describing sounds just like what one of my spring chickens is currently experiencing ... which is why I'm searching 'molting' on the forum this morning.

Several of my birds went through mini molts their first few months.
