In March, my 1 year old Columbian Rock Cross hen, Chalky, lost tons of feathers while we were away. We though she was just molting very badly, but after 2 months, we realized that was not the case. We started to think she could have been attacked by something. Sometimes it appears as if she has grown a few feathers, but then sometimes it looks like she is loosing more. It doesn't appear that her fellow coop mates are picking on her, but you can never really tell. You can see the skin on her neck, chest, and her back near her tail feathers. She is still laying eggs though. Is this a skin condition? Could it be contagious? One of my other hens has patches of no feathers, like her, on the front of her neck. It has been 5 months that Chalky has been like this. Will her feathers ever grow back?

In the first picture, you can kind of see her back a little bit. She does not have tail feathers. In the second picture you can see her chest area. The amount of skin showing on her neck/chest appears to have increased since this picture was taken in May.
