my hens are molting.they are on purina layena.do they need something other than layer to help them through their molt.

While they are molting some like to feed them a higher protein feed. Feathers are mostly protein after all.

I can't get flock raiser feed here where I live but I have found a feed store in my area that sells a 22% poultry feed that I have to special order and if I can't get it I use gamebird feed which is 20% protein. I think it helps the birds when they are molting.

I have heard of people using the gamebird mix while molting. Works pretty good and I guess they gobble it up.

Since they probably won't lay you can take them off the layer feed and put them on a flock raiser feed that has 20% protein.
I have four hens altogether. Two of them are molting and two aren't and still laying. Do I offer both layer and flock raiser or take the layer feed out?
