OMG, XD I just sprayed orange juice! I am very disciplined to hold off naming my peeps 'till I know what their genders are; I wasn't graced with getting all pullets, like you, Pipd.Well, something was invading his coop! He'll get over it once the little girls are mature.![]()
35 days.My brother's girlfriend wanted to name one.
I'm like, "Honey, they've been named since December."![]()

OMG, XD I just sprayed orange juice! I am very disciplined to hold off naming my peeps 'till I know what their genders are; I wasn't graced with getting all pullets, like you, Pipd.I got straight run... and I was taking a risk doing so. Our last bunch of st. run was seven chicks and ALL of them were cockerels...
some died, and we are wondering what to do with the remaining two cockerels...
(No, we didn't neglect them to make them die, they were just acting odd one day, and then the next day, they were just gone. And two disappeared from the pen...)
Oh, so did you get yourself bantams or something? *insert suspicious face here* I sure hope that I don't wind up having to cull out this batch of chicks and try again 'cause they don't fit the standard.Hey, I may or may not have some straight run chicks in this batch. The names I've chosen are pretty unisex (they're Maori words and phrases, like Rangi and Tiwhiri), so they should work out either way.![]()

And there's no need to explain that. Things happen with chicks, even if you do everything just right.![]()
Well, I bet you're excited. I sat and counted the days (actually the hours and the days) till I got my chicks! XD Then I had the brooder set up three days early! Are you gonna do the same thing you did with the Fab Five? I LOVED reading that thread!Maaaaaybeeeee....![]()
You got black Ameraucanas, didn't you? I'm sure even if they don't meet the standard, you could make some really pretty Easter-eggers by crossing them with one of your roosters. And, well, if they're all cockerels...
My girl, Merlin, is literally the only straight run chick we've gotten that was actually a pullet, so that's what kind of luck I have. (I don't count the one hen that my sister brought home (with 6 roosters I might add), 'cause I'm pretty sure those people thought they were giving her all roosters and made a slip up.
