oh while I have you hear and not to hijack the thread but how long before a quail gets too old to cull and not be tough? and how can I fatten them up before processing? should I try broiler crumbles that I use on my meaties?

As for fattening them up, i'd do broiler crumbles and WAX WORMS! LOL! May sound gross but those are supposedly a good fattener upper for animals.

A quail will actually put on fat. As a quail ages, like with me, instead of getting meatier after their metabolism slows all they do is put on is fat. Like broiler, they can put on fat internally also which could cause heart failure. My suggestion would be to harvest them at the 10 - 12 weeks age after a high protein diet.
