*Monday night Update - dog bite - graphic pic

Another Update we are approaching 48 hours from the dog attack.
"Girlfriend" that is the name of this chicken (she was from the same 'batch' as the rooster so they are best buds. It is sad because he has called for her, he is worried that she is gone.
She is still in the house in a dog crate, seems to be doing very well eating well, drinking well and does not seem puffed up or stressed.
crossing fingers!

Monday night,
I have a new question about "Girlfriend"
how "long" should we continue to daily clean and treat the wounds? will it be apparent?
she is finishing her 4th day since the dog bite.
she is feisty and eating well. She hates being treated, which I see as a good sign.
she is mostly standing on one leg (the other side from her long wound) but she gets along well, frankly I'm amazed at how well she is doing, she will walk on her bad side leg but rests with weight off it
wondering what our best game plan is? I'm thinking at least a week or more of daily cleaning before we would decide (she is getting rinsed, cleaned with betadine solution (diluted) then packed with triple antibiotic.
thanks for the good thoughts!

I think you are doing a awesome job taking care of "girlfriend"

. If it was me, I would keep her separated from the flock untile you see that the wounds are starting to scab over and heal. I would almost go as far as saying untile her wounds are completly healed! Her wounds are pretty nasty and I would hate for the other's to start pecking at her and cause them to open back up and bleed.

right,
agreed.
she will be living in the "Lizard room" LOL (sigh) and is in a large dog crate. I think she will be apart for a good long while, she does not seem upset about being away from her buddies it is "Chicken Little" (the rooster) that seems to miss her. He is still watching over his other 7 girls (Frenchie, Chicky-Chick, Rocky, Red-Sneech, Blond-Sneech, Red and Sexy - yes all her chickens are named

). But my friend said he has been a lot more vocal since "Girlfriend" has been in the house.
we will just keep plugging away and hope that no infection sets in!
thanks,

The things we do for our chicken family!! I have 2 that are in the hopital now, so you/she is not alone. Maybe she can bring chicken little in for a "short" visit once the wounds start scabbing over. Keep up the good work!
