Mophers? Goles?

The prices to purchase a Rodenator are rather steep, but in our area, there is a fellow who will come out with his as a rental. Unfortunately, I live in town and he said he didn't want to shake up the whole neighborhood and cause damage. He mostly uses it on rural property. So we set traps and caught nothing.

Wow, I better not show this to my hubby, he is at war with the moles, and seems they are also on the battlefront.
He killed a few, and it seems like we have more mole tunnels than ever before within a few days of the casualties.
I do think he would choke on the price though.

I've actually looked at the Rodenator and versions like it before.

The trouble is that these runs are directly under a stand of pines, and I'm pretty sure the Rodenator or a concussive propane-powered blast would do the trees in by killing the root system. The trees are already old, but I want to keep them as long as possible.

I was hoping someone had an effective repellent or poison.

mdbokc: You didn't say what to mix the "active ingredient" with - Water?

The repellant formula is actually...
All solutions go into a 20 gal hose end sprayer and are applied to 2500 sq ft.
Gophers/ Moles Tonic
1 c liquid dish soap 1 cup urine
2 T of alum dissolved in hot water

Since the main secret ingredient is simply urine and free, I just use it and water (as do others). No odor and no flies but tunnelers cannot stand the scent and will leave the area alone. So I fill the hose end sprayer which requires about 30 oz of urine. In a 5 gal pail, when I want an immediate result within hours or minutes, I add 10-20 oz of product to the water and pour along the edge of the garden or yeard if I see activity coming my way. All my neighbors have tunnelers every year. I do not.

Hope this helps.

Wow! Wonder if we could modify the Rodenator to get my 19 year-old daughter out of bed in the morning?

Hey Chook!

Looks like a mole to me, too. I have those same mounds in a section of my back yard. Makes me sooooo mad!!

Urine will work. You can skip the hose end sprayer and simply dilute pee it in water and pour it on the mounds and at the opening. It will take more than one application most likely. But it does work. Heck, at least once a summer I have a party with lots of beer and instructions about where the guys are allowed to "assist my garden." heh heh

I also have pretty good luck keeping them GONE by using annoying yard art that flaps and makes vibration into the ground. Like the copper watering sculptures or as simple as wooden ducks with twirly wings. Kitchy and drives away the moles and prairie dogs. It works.

Keep us posted!

ETA: Human urine, as long as it is diluted, is actually healthy for your yard and garden.

Hi, Kat!!!

Sounds like you know how to throw a party.

I'll try the urine method over the next couple of days. The runs seem big to be moles, but it would be better than if they were woodchucks.

Thanks!

if it is moles, they are attracked to grubs in your yard. get milky spore, kills grubs, moles move away. grubs grow into japanese beeltes, bad for garden, so your killing two birds with one stone. its pretty good stuff. good luck!
