More expensive bator..better?(Updated w/Pics)

Not sure. Might be because the season for hatching chickens is winding down (or pretty much over, especially for people like me that live in the northern states, whose chickens have pretty much stopped laying for the year

)

Therefore they may have stopped selling until the season starts back up next spring (my guess anyways)

Ok cause you would think sellers on ebay would have some like kemps koops. They have the octagon series on there. Rcom 20 pro is what I want for christmas. my 2 front teeth can wait till next year

Well, another good hatch in my new(used) R-Com

11 out of 12 eggs that developed hatched (Had to help one who was hatching out of the bottom of the egg instead of the top. Was a decision I went back and forth on, as I am hesitatant to want to help a chick hatch - last time I tried it it didnt work out so well - however this, time the chick seems fairly health so far, just a bit smaller in size than most of the other chicks).

This is the first hatch ever for me that I have had a 50% or better hatch rate on eggs that were shipped to me

However, I think I am done w/hatching new birds until next spring. My DW has been saying "death by chickens"

to me for having so many chicks around.......

Hey zchickens

Your birds look great!

Is your rcom accurate in terms of humidity and temp?

I am thinking mine is off becuase I put my hygrometer in there (which I had calibrated) and it was reading 13 degrees low! (meaning the rcom)

So I am confused. I am hoping my 1st hatch makes it. They are due today and tomorrow.....

Did you calibrate your R-Com when you got it? They sometimes don't come calibrated and need to be set up first. Once you calibrate them, they hold temp and humidity perfectly. The humidity was off in mine when I got it, but I calibrated it with two different hygrometers that read the same, and it's been fine ever since.

HEHE my wife is saying that now, and I am still in the process of building the bator and coop and no chicks yet. wait till I get this operation up and running...

Since my R-com was used when I purchased it, it was probably calibrated by the previous owner. I haven't tried to check the temp/humidity against another source, but considering my hatch rates so far

, I doubt if it is off much, if any. Jennifer, I hope that your hatch turns out well for you. Will keep my fingers crossed....

Yes, I did calibrate it per the instructions and didn't even consider it would be off (considering the cost I trusted their instruments) but I have had great hatches with my thermom/hygrom, so I was kind of freaked out that there was such a large discrepancy between the humiidity of the two. So I split the differnce. I had 3 of4 hatch yesterday and have another batch that started pipping this morning. So we shall see.....It is a great bator in terms of keeping things constant!
