More newbie questions

I agree with Arbor. One of the hens is bronze and one is split bronze or IB. If he told you it was bronze, I would leave it in there and see if you get some bronze babies to test it. You have nothing to lose. If you can get the possible split bird in the sun and get some close up head neck and chest pictures, I might be able to see if it is split. My split bronze girls are all much darker int the normal "cream" color areas and have lots of "rust" color in the head and chest.

You definitely have one pied and one silver pied as you suspect.

That is great help! Thank you all.
As I learn more about the colors and variations I will try to keep asking about them. I will also try to get more photos. It is slow going on the Pea Pens though. I am only one person and the folks that help me live an hour and a half away so we only get one or two days a month to work on them.

I can't wait to get them home though!

Thats is true, i build just about everything for my birds and i am a girl.
I love kennel pannels they make wonderful movable pens.
I purchased mine new but they are listed on our local classifides all the time.

Obviously, you all have not seen my website!

My Housing page is full of tractors and coops that I built by myself. They do not look half bad, if I do say so myself.

I can handle a cordless drill and skill saw better than a broom or keyboard!

But as the years have gone on I am getting to where it is harder for me to get it all done. I am going to cut back on a lot of birds this next spring, if possible and concentrate on breeding birds only. Table eggs are a lost cause so hatching eggs will probably be better for me to keep up with.

Thank you for the support and boost in my confidence!

I have about 4 of these but 2 years ago a storm blew through, caught one of these pens by the tarp on the side that I used to block wind and flipped it over a few times until it hit my Silkie/Cochin shed and trees. My bantam Cochins survived but it tore apart their coop inside the pen and I never found the eggs the hens had been sitting on. Our winds get up around 60 mph a few times a year so I hesitate to trust these for birds that aren't inside a safe coop.

Your set up is awesome! I love it and wish I had a protected area like that. I live at the foot of the mountains and the winds can be horrid!

We have had the same wind problems with our covered pipe corrals, so now we anchor them down.

Yea wind can be real bad, i have hog wire bottoms on my pens, it is attached to the pannel bottoms, them i have sand and dirt on top ,so it holds the pen down from the bottom, plus i put my pens up by the beside of the barn so it helps block alot of wind.

I'll never forget the day that we got a call from the boarding stable we used to be at... "come quick, your barn is blowing over". Sure enough, we got there and the ranch hand was hanging onto it, feet in the air, and this was an 18" x 48" covered pipe corral barn. Lesson learned, lol.

My barn is 100 feet long and it has been hit 3 times by hurrican force winds, it leans to the left quite a bit so i let the trees grow up on that side to help support it incase it gets hit hard enough next time to snap the tempers, we have replace 2 in the center so far
