Miss Prissy, you do have some gorgeous birds...I would give anything to have a blue and a red orp...side by side, they are gorgeouse..I love big red! Coincidentally, my favorite horse in the whole wide world's name is Bid Red. A giant red QH gelding with flaming red hair, I love 'em.

Back to the orginal post about the Light brahma/ blue orp mix hen...I dont have any standard brahmas but i have one each of a light brahma bantam and a dark brahma bantam...That hens chest strongly resembles my laced dark brahma...I absolutely love the lacing of dark brahmas, they are something else. Can't wait to see what you get. I cant wait til my bantams start layin eggs next month...Those are my just for fun birds and i cant wait to mix ,em all up to see what i can get...I got all sorts of pure breeds in there, From wlr cornis, silkies, brahmas, gl wyndott, oeg..etc..

PS Being a country girl from the south I love the name Reba too!
I also think about Orphan Annie when i think of Redheads, I get a picture in my head of the front of an old Annies christmas record we had growing up when i was real young.

MP, the light brahma/blue pullet has a brahma type body in my opinion...

All pretty birds ... That flaming Red is something else..

I'm jealous. JEALOUS! I incubated and hatched 15 blue x blue Orpington eggs, and ended up with five splashes, five blacks, and five blues. I gave away the splashes immediately. I recently gave away two black roosters, leaving me eight. I now have three light blues, possibly all roosters, one that I'm sure is a roo. I also have two black hens left. That leaves me with three of what I really want, dark blue (see your picture repeated below),

two roosters, and one ONE hen; one of the roos will soon be going. So basically, after all this time, I have only two chickens that I was hoping for, a dark-blue rooster and a dark-blue hen. I will save/hatch all of her eggs; supposedly, a dark blue X dark blue will produce all dark blue, and the dark blue is at its best after the first molt. Anxious to see what happens next year. I'll probably keep the black hens for a while (?), probably even the light blue if they're not roosters (?).

You do know that you would have gotten some very good blues if you had kept those splashes don't you???

I have blues in all shades from very light which I almost confused as splash in the early days to very dark blue that in the right light looks black. Paired with the right roosters those hens will make awesome babies.

I have a pen of chicks from Mosby and Bonnie and they are every shade of blue too. My favorite one right now is very light blue but she has AWESOME super darl blue lacing.

PS - I have incubated over 300 eggs now ...
