Morel Mushroom and other hunters gather here!

We've got a fallen tree that produces "grey oyster" mushrooms, a winter time treat, they're great! I got two good batches of them off of that tree, both times the land owner was gone so, shame to see them go to waste!

I was hoping for another good batch or two but I think that was it for the year.

Around here, our rule is, Nothing poisonous grows off of wood. Maybe bad-tasting, but as long as it grows off of wood you should be OK.

Major storm + warm weather from Wed. on will hopefully mean some mushrooms. It's supposed to be around the 80's on saturday!

We used to go up to Cadillac every year around Mothers Day, they would have a festival and we would go mushroom hunting for the weekend. Talk about coming home with bags full.

That was over 15 years ago now..

I have looked a couple of times here in NC as I do hear of reported spots that they find them but have not seen any myself. What I wouldn't give to have some again!!

No, not yet haven't found much here in Ky, but I don't look that hard. I'm hoping someone has a good mushroom hunting knowlege. I love mushrooms and I'd love mushroom hunting but I can only postively identify amantia spores with a spore test and puff balls and fairy rings is all.

Do snakes like to live where mushrooms grow. I hate snakes.

On another site people are finding black and grey morels in southern Indiana.

Ooh...MEE TOO! We have gray and yellow morels back in the woods - 16 acres, but just a few spots where the morels grow. Probably a couple of weeks yet for us, at least. This has been informative - never heard of pheasants backs. I have heard of hens teeth (or something like that) around here. They may be a fall mushroom.

Will post pics if/when we come up with some. Gotta get stocked up on the butter
