Most expensive eggs I've ever seen!

Around here, the going price is $2.00. That's just a bit over the Wal-Mart price for a dozen large eggs.

Of course, in this rural area there are quite a few families that raise chickens and the average income is low, with local Wal-Mart being the main employer.

Once ours are laying, our plan is to give the ones that we don't use to some of our lower income neighbors. We have some great neighbors that barely have a shirt on their back, but they would gladly give it to you if they thought that you needed it. I wouldn't trade living in Small Town, America for anything!

People can ask $7.00 a dozen but are they actually selling the eggs fior that price?
Here in NE Ohio I buy from a local Amish family they sell the eggs for $2.00 a dozen.
That is until my March hatched girls start to lay.
In Walmart the sickly white eggs are $1.89 a dozen, the "organic" ones are $3.99 a dozen.
I will sell my "extras" for $2.00 dozen. When I was selling 2 years ago I sold for $1.00 and always had a waiting list. People around here will pay up to $4 for good fresh eggs. Anything over that and the eggs will sit in the fridge.

One of the local organic farms here sells eggs for $4.oo/half dozen. That $8 for 12 eggs...highway robbery, but they sell out every week. I think it is a case of what the market will bear. I think $1.50/ dozen is too low, but I don't sell any eggs.
