I'm so sorry about the loss of your brave Cleatus.  If is was a cat that got him, it was one big, bold cat.. like a Puma.  Domestic cats would be unlikely to mess with such a big chicken.  Unfortunately, I have frequently seen raccoons during the day around here, so that may be a possibility.

We trapped 2 cats last week, they looked like Maine Coon mix. They took 5 of my big hens before he could run them off. I appreciate your sympathy! I hadn't really connected with one of my roosters till he came along so it really saddens me to see him go. My alarm clock is gone...how do non-chicken people wake up in the morning??

Oh no, I'm sorry about your hens, too. Anything with Maine Coon in the mix is indeed a big cat.
