Most unusual punishment your parents used?

I don't ever really get punished, spanked a few times [lightly with a hand] by mother when I was like 5-7 yrs old. I don't ever get ANY punishment by my father, yet I am very well behaved. My mom and I argue sometimes, and if I yell at her I typically have to go to bed at 10 instead of 11, and 9:30 if I argue again that day. And if I am real bad, which is rare, I will have to feed the animals in the morning which is typically her job. I feel so lucky, yet I don't misbehave hardly ever, so that is probably why. Never been grounded either or had my cell phone taken away. TV has been taken away for a day once or twice. That has been about the worst.

Bar of soap in the mouth, switch from tree, and if those didn't work........we got the "board"! It was a wooden paddle with a handle and a string around the handle so just in case they lost their grip and it slipped, they'd still have good access to the Board!!

My step father would threaten to take off his belt and give us a licken but he was all bark and no bite, we were only scared of MOM!!!

Let's see - wooden spoons, chinese slippers, slapping with long fingernails, no reading, no tv, no sports, no socializing, public humiliation, endless religous lecturing. I already cleaned the house, ironed the clothes and cooked, so there was nothing to add on. DH doesn't understand how/why I still talk to my parents.

The worst thing my folks ever did to me was let me grow up and have to work for a living. Cruelty! I'm writing my book about them right now.

I got spanked a few times when I was really young. But after I was like 8 or 10 it was all grounding.

I would get grounded from reading if I did that instead of my chores.

Or I would get grounded from Tv, Computer, Video Games, friends. When I misbehaved.

Or they would threaten to take away my animals, which I paid for... hm

Mostly I would just get yelled at and I have such a tender heart that was enough to cry.

For all you parents who think that kids who do wrong stuff and get punished all the time are losers and/or potential axe murderers, let me say this:

I was an extremely well-behaved obedient respectful child - the dream of every parent. Never had to be grounded, punished, yelled at.

Then when I got into my 20's, I proceeded to do every wrong thing in the book and hurt a lot of people. I was incredibly immature because I never had a healthy rebellion and subsequent appropriate punishment.

So, ground away, yell away, but let your kids make mistakes & learn from them.

[getting off my soapbox now]

LOL That's the same with my sister and I when my parents were still married.

I wouldn't even open my mouth around him, let alone misbehave.

After it was just us and our mom, the most memorable punishments I can think of are once when she didn't have any bar soap she squirted sunlight in each of our mouths

(Not that getting our mouths washed out with soap happened often, only twice as I can remember.)
She would also give us a spanking in front of everyone if we misbehaved in a store. She never bluffed when she warned us we'd get a spanking right now if we didn't start behaving.

I talked back to my mother when I was 15. My dad grabbed me by the hair of my head and put me against the dining room wall and said "You will never talk to your mother like that again." I'll be 49 next month ... and I ain't talked to her like that since.

It's not unusual, but it did leave a lasting impression on me.

My mother was verbally and emotionally abusive. I won't go into any of her strange punishments.

When my children argue, I punish them both. I figure that it takes two to argue. Also, if they fight over a toy, I take the toy for a few days. They don't have to share everything. A few items can be nonsharable, like favorite stuffed animals.
