I was wondering if anyone here has come across one any of their flock having mothball smelling breath before. I know it sounds odd - but it smells close to identical and is coming from the beak/nares. I lost a hen recently to a heart attack while recovering from a lower respiratory infection and I am thinking this may be the start of the same thing in the sinuses.
The smell is still there 2 hours after I noticed and after feeding treats so it doesn’t seem like she has eating a stinky insect. They have also have zero access to real mothballs and have been in their run all day so far.
She is not looking too bad - choosing to stand around more than usual but still is active, enthusiastic about food and pooping ok. Mostly she looks completely normal besides slowing down, she was broody 3 weeks ago and broken and has not come back into lay so that alone has be thinking something may be up (it usually takes my girls 2 weeks).
Any comments from anyone that has experienced something like this is much appreciated
pic of the little offender because she is cute
