Hi, I have six baby chicks varying from 2-3 weeks. They are very new to me and I want to make them feel as comfortable as possible. How can I make them love me, as in not run away when I open their cage and not trying to fly away when I pick them up. I just want them to not be so rigid around me. what is the best way to do this?

Approach from the side rather than from above (they are hardwired to fear things coming at them from above) and use food to make them associate the approach of your hand with good things to eat.

Holding out your hand with treats in it and letting them come to you helps them trust you. Holding them often also helps. Being calm around them too.
