Gidday members.
I am a new member to this site and look forward to your valuable insights into chickens. Having said that, I have had back yard chickens as a kid and then again in my early married life and now once again taken up the cause .I have recently taken possession of 6 crossbreed hens from a local breeder and all were just on the point of lay. My concern is with one particular hen who has an eye problem. After having her for approximately a month she developed an eye problem in one eye. It closed up and occasionally seemed to a yellow pus glob. Her demeanour also changed in that she sat around a lot quite lethargically and would rest her head on the ground with her tail end in the air. I continued with the eye baths of saline and gave her antibiotic eyedrops and then when doing an eye bath a yellow disc popped out of the affected eye. to describe the disc, it looked like half a yellow split pea husk. Since that came out she perked up immensely but still had a sealed up eye. To date there hasn't been any more pus but the eye remains closed. Today however, my husband tells me she was shaking her head around and another yellow disc was expelled. So, has any one out there had any experience of this kind of thing with their chooks?
Cheers
