Motorcycle Helmet Laws

I am lost though how you took that as an insult to Canada...

I'm not going to be dragged into a thread killing campaign but did you mean this comment as a compliment?

You can keep "civilized" We have never claimed that the USA is "civilized". We claim to be free an are fighting to stay that way. If you want "civilized" you want Canada...

Hi all,
I am not here to fuss and fight over rights. It your body to do with what you will. But please the next time you have a sugery or procedures READ the whole consent before signing. Did you know if you have a DNR it is on hold and does not count while you are in the procedure.... The list of things that you think you have taken care of, but on an emergency is over ridden.(Yes it happens.) I know in some states even if you are an organ doner, family can override and not allow.

Just a few things to think about, boy have I learned tons being in the healthcare field.

I have a motorcycle endorsement.

No longer have a bike. But I use to. On the road, with traffic,
I choose to wear a good helmet. And laid the bike down at
speed when a lady failed to see me and pulled out of a service
station.

Little road rash but no major hurts.

Had a smaller bike for pure relaxing on the backroads. Dirt
roads, just putting. Low speed. No helmet.

Had four wheelers...unsafe monsters. To fast and too easy
to to abuse. So we sold them before someone got hurt. Golf
carts much slower, much safer.

Seat belts? Yep, I pretty much wear them. It's the law in Spookland.
But I wore them before the law was passed. The way I drove, I
needed them. The early theory was to kinda keep the body close
to the car. (I had some issues, believing I was Superman)

I really try not to hurt the Spook.

Spook

Why is it that every thread I post on goes into directions even I can't follow? How did a motorcycle helmet thread go spiral into a debate about whether or not someone hates Canadians?

Hubby and daughter wear full faced helmets. I think hubby laid the bike down three times (once was shoestring caught in the pedals, couldn't get his foot down on concrete, tipped over, crashed into road, bumped his head and twice was loose gravel on country roads, he was not going very fast but enough to have his helmet and bike fairing scraped). Once in a while hubby will drive without it but he is playing russian roulette.

Only ONE time he went ahead and took my seven year old daughter on the motorcycle without a helmet. I chewed his *** about it and didn't do it again. All because he didn't bring a helmet with him. I told him it does not matter, either give me a call to pick her up from school or take the horse riding helmet (better than nothing) in the van if he sees me there on the pick up lane at school.

Sure I've rode with him without a helmet but I don't feel comfortable and too leery about other drivers and so forth. I told him thanks for the ride but I'd rather ride with the helmet to really enjoy the bike ride.

Same for horses, after I got thrown into the mulberry tree, had a concussion and broken thumb....I'd rather ride one with helmet.

You can't mandate safe attitudes. If people want to ride a motorcycle without a helmet , then they should be allowed to do so. The same goes with horses, bicycles, etc...

Seat belt laws are a different story. The driver of a motor vehicle needs to be in control of the vehicle at all times. It takes very little force to be bounced from behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. A seat belt keeps the driver behind the wheel and in control of the vehicle so it must be mandatory.

Thats something I was talking about with someone the other day.... A 5 year old cant sit in the back of a truck, cant even be belted in to a car without special equipment but them on the back of a motorcycle, screaming down the highway held on by nothing is legal.
