@#$**& mountain lion

I was just watching deadly animal attacks, and one episode was mountain lions. Beautiful cats until they start attacking you and yours.Sorry for your loss.Be careful out there. I think it is pretty dumb to have to wait till it attacks a human before it can be legally shot.

Sorry for your loss

May i asked how you knew it was a ML cause they general stay hidden and kill for food and run with it not leave it behind, sounds more like the work of canines

Beautiful animals, also known as cougars. If you have these in your neighborhood your chickens are the least of your worries. Better to call the Fish and Wildlife people right away to trap and relocate them. We get them around here especially in the 'burbs in the foothills.

Mountain lions may be killed only 1) if a depredation permit is issued to take a specific lion killing livestock or pets; 2) to preserve public safety; or 3) to protect listed bighorn sheep..... It says in california that's the rules, idk about other places because all I found was cali online, but here where live I'd think it would just be SSS..... Anyway, I'd get a hold of fish & game asap though

FYI there are a couple of National Geographic programs on tonight about Mt Lions. One at 7 and the other at 8 EST if you're interested and can get their channel.

Ever think about how weird it is that we protect predators which have LITTERs, but not prey animals, who usually only have one or 2 offspring a year?
Glad I live where I can have my LGD's. We have cougar, bobcat, coyote, badger, coons, eagles, hawks, you name it. all my critters free range, protected by their two 'body guards'.

Kind of like society these days, where the criminals get all the rights, and the victims go through the ringer. When I had the Game Warden out here for a big cat of an undetermined nature (as in we never saw it, but heard it roar!), I had asked him what MY rights were if it should appear in my yard. He told me I had every right to defend myself, my family, or my pets with deadly force. That was over 10 years ago, so I sure hope that still applies??

wow!

There had been a wildcat spotted locally for about a week, and it was moving northeast toward our location. Saturday morning, we heard the chickens making a fuss, but thought nothing of it (as they fuss at microbes, I swear!). In a span of five minutes, that thing took three of our chickens. Two managed to hide, and two were out in the open just derping around like they always do...I have no idea how they made it.

The township police came out and tracked the cat with my hubby for an hour. It was, in fact, the wildcat. The tracks were clear and they were able to see where it came out of the woods, onto our property, and then back into the woods. They didn't find it, though. The crappy thing is that the three that were killed had just started to squat, and we were expecting their first eggs at any moment.

Sigh.

Poor Sophie was very upset, as we all were, but I was more angry than anything. Grr!
