They're looking for a place to hunker down in for the winter.
When one ladybug finds a suitable place for hibernation he lets the others know and hundred to thousands come to that spot to hibernate.So, yes what Chickenchick11 said. :3

That's alot of bugs. Guess you won't be having an aphid problem for awhile.
We had some like that years ago, they all decided they wanted to live in our mailbox
