Wow you must have had pretty bad weather!

Yesterday I realized I had lost two more chickens.

A few days ago I had lost a Andalusian hen who kept getting out, well yesterday I was missing a five month old sex link pullet, who I had also seen out, and my black rose comb bantam rooster, who was always out. I have all my chickens across the road on our other property, so more then a thousand feet from the house. fortunately there are very few ground predators, but there is a red tail hawk that nests over there and Ive seen it watching my chickens before. I still have over 70 laying hens, which is way more then I need, but it's really annoying when I lose some, especially a pullet so close to laying age.

I not so worried about the rooster, since he was the one always getting my hens to get out. I haven't had a problem before since in till two weeks ago we had guard dogs over there. I've tightened the fence up and clipped the wings of the birds that could fly out. fortunately the two chicks that just hatched replace the ones I've lost. I hope they are both pullets.

Sorry to hear you lost some hens! (and a rooster) My rooster has a bad habit of flying the coop also!LOL! But he taught my favorite hen and she flew out one day and never got back in that night............... so she was killed by a raccoon
