ChickA, it would probably be fine. Parakeets are quite tiny, tho and in my experience Pet Store ones tend to die. Very easily. just make sure they have plenty of room to escape each other if they want to. And have a backup plan should you need to separate them.

Hey! I'm thinking about getting a diamond dove to live with a parakeet my sister is going to get for her b-day. Is that okay? Will the parakeet and the dove co-exist?

No, don't put them together. Parakeets have a tendency to eat things that don't play with them... :/ That's why Chilli isn't kept with a parakeet. Even in a large space, such as the aviary that Chilli is kept in, I would be incredibly uncomfortable adding a bird that would get bored of Chilli and start biting/eating him. Doves don't have a sharp beak, so they couldn't defend themselves if a parakeet was going to start getting nippy.
