Yup. Most of the thistles this year are ugly, some years they bloom and others they just make a mess. Ah. Yeah. Indeed, with barred breeds the hens are suppose to be darker than the males

We used to have barred rocks,
One time when we first got our chickens our cat got curious about them, then the barred rock gave the cat what for! Poor cat never went near the chickens again (which isn't a bad thing )
