Mourning Dove's abandoned egg

Another thing, are you sure it's a dove or did you see the parents lay it?
It's probably a dove if they're nesting in your yard since they're notoriously bad nest builders even when they're not being harassed by predators, but it doesn't hurt to be sure.

Hi,
Well thank you for being kind. Yes, I did look up the law and was aware of it prior to joining this forum. Today is day 13 and i'm getting a bit nervous but also pray I'll save this little life.
Thank you for your kind words

Good on you for rescuing it, but you probably will have to hand the chick over to someone, not be able to keep it.:)

Thank you for your response. I am considering it. It is not something that I would want to keep from its natural surroundings.

Hello, I entered this site 2 days ago in hopes of giving and receiving some advise.
Its day 12 and I have been keeping this tiny egg warm 97 - 100 degrees.
I candeled it using my Iphone and can see it moving inside the egg
I have some questions: I bought Exact by Kaylee for baby birds because I read on the internet it was ok for Mourning Doves but on the container it reads, "do not feed to wild birds". can someone advise on this?
Thank you
I hatched an abandoned egg too! Used the same formula and it worked great. Easy to make and does the job. It’s very hard to keep the dove alive because they have to have some way to drink the formula, they don’t open their mouths for food. My feeding intervals weren’t really scheduled but were whenever the crop was low, and the baby didn’t have many issues with taking breaks for sleep. Now is the time to close it and put the egg on “lockdown”. Don’t open the incubator until it is hatched and you should also up the humidity to probably 45% from now on.

Sorry I didn’t see the day, so I’m guessing today is hatch day? I did the same thing but once the baby was weaned onto seeds I took it to the local wildlife rehabilitation center I found online. Everyone is saying it is illegal but you are helping the poor thing and that matters more. I didn’t get in any trouble from them, they were very thankful for not letting it die since the survival rate for first year doves are only about 25% and that makes it hard for them to populate with all of the hunting. You cannot feet them with a syringe, or at least it’ll be very difficult. Find some sort of little cap or some very very tiny cup-like object so they can stick their beaks in and eat like they would with their mother. Please continue to post and keep us updated! Good luck!
