Aart, I admit I didn't read all that but I did skim it fairly closely. Can you please point to the part that describes the breed of chicken? :p

I understand it was just an adjective used to describe their chicken like some people would use weird or freaky.
 
I don't worry about mice, Ive seen my girls eat them! Altho, I do try to keep food cleaned up cause I don't want a whole bunch of them. This time of year, they are looking for a nice warm place to over-winter and the chicken coop bedding seems perfect for them.

I knew it was some kind of reference 'beyond' my era, so looked it up. ;)
 
I wondered if they meant EMU. But the males hatch the eggs and I think a big fellow like that would just gobble up a mouse. Besides a mouse could never bite thru an Emu egg.
