Mouse Plague!! HELP

get a cat. they will hunt for you. feed them some in the morning, not too much so they don't eat the birds. I have a male and female that are both great hunters.

I learned a lot on this one. I like the shoe box and glue trap one. I have a ledge halfway up the coop that my ladies can't get to and I set a regular trap there with a little peanut butter. Works pretty good.

Does anyone have a sparrow in the coop problem?

I've been on the look out on freecycle for some young cats. YES on the sparrows in the coop. they come right in the pop door at dusk. I also have starlings in the duck house during the day. Cats will probably take care of that problem also. I still worry about cats and my ducklings in the spring though.

My housecat killed a mouse yesterday morning, his first one! We were so proud of him LOL.

We have these giant mice...voles, i think...anyway a good rubbermaid trash can with a lid proved to be a good investment. Now if the mice want food, they have to brave the chickens and go scrap hunting IN THE RUN! Needless to say, I don't lose a lot of feed to mice. Don't give up, and don't get rid of your birds.

prr- No feline rabies in this province!

When I was at the hardware store I saw some of those electronic sound generators (# for $29) that repel mice. Haven't rried them and wondering if they can be used around chickens. Instructions were vague on that.

I like that idea of the old freezer to protect the feed.

Plastic trash cans haven't worked here. They manage to eat right through them. I am on the look out for an old deep freeze. Another one is your local land fill. they have old dumpsters that they can't use. Repair the bottom with some metal and have yourself a cheap grain storage.

well that's it I'm moving to where you are so I can have barn kitties. I can't have house kitties cause of my asthma.
your so lucky I wouldn't have had to get those awefull shots
