I was given a day old wood duckling. The mom left the nest with 2 left behind. I took them to the vet and he said one is healthy and was deformed and close to death, He put it to sleep. I took the last one home and am trying to care for it. I have never had a duck. I grew up with chickens so I know they are close but not all the same. I have it drinking and I stopped at my small town feed store and talked to a boy and he got me baby duck feed and told me the duck likes lower temps than chicks. What else do I do?

Small update the chick has taught it to eat and it is walking a little now and has drank and ate a little!

adorable, but you should get that newspaper out and put shelf-liner (rubber kind) or towels down for them. Newspaper is too slippery and they can get spraddle leg from not having proper traction...Good Luck! I'd love to find little Woodies in need of rescue!

oh yes, they'll work too. I just always put something grippy down first over the shavings so they know what is their food and what isn't (and don't eat the pine shavings or horse bedding pellets that I'm using in my brooder box.) I'm using old tshirts from my sons layered on the floor of their brooder this spring...I just wait til they are poopy then pull them out, use the next layer until the babies are a few days old, then all the Tshirts are gone and they're on the bare bedding...Good Luck.
