Moving 6 wk old chicks outside in New Hampshire

It's not a matter of what the night time temps are for those chicks. It's a matter of whether you have acclimated them to the cooler temps.

I brood my chicks outdoors. By the time they are 4 - 5 weeks old, they have weaned themselves off their MHP completely. At that time, it's not unusual for temps to be dipping to low 30's at night, and 50 - 75 during the day.

Hopefully, you've weaned them from heat, and have been taking them out for the day any time after 3 weeks of age. Generally, the progression of weaning looks like this: If brooded in the house, they should be completely off heat by 3 weeks, assuming house temp 68 - 70*. Week 4, they can be going out for progressively longer periods of time in predator proof coop and run. By week 5, they can move into coop for good. If you are concerned about night time temps, you can give them a wool hen or a huddle box. A topic search will turn up details about both of these items.
