Moving out of state

Southern Ohio will give you about the same weather that you get in CT, However jobs are scarce(non-exixtent). If you do northern Ohio East of Cleveland will give you a LOT more snow Northwest is a little cooler than CT, and you can go to Cedar Point. I dont think you will have problems finding towns that allow chickens, lots of Oh is still Farmland, however there will be exceptions.

On a side note, Most places will be cheaper to live than CT.

You could come live by me, in the corner of MD/PA/DE a little milder as far as weather, not quite as high of living expense, and property is cheaper than CT. an hour from Phily/Baltimore, 2 hrs from DC. Most in our county actually comute. Wilmington,DE is 20 minutes away. Not sure what kind of work you do, but there is a little bit of everything here. If you dont work, or work out of home, I would look into, NC/VA/WV/OH.

I love New orleans too , beautiful OLD city and landmarks . Ohhhhhh Honey if you think the racial remarks are bad here , THEN you CAN NOT ever live in New Orleans . And your remarks are very unusual . BECAUSE you are the very 1st. person I have ever hear say they hated Louisiana . BUT coming from the fact that you are a kid and young GUESS I can forgive you for not knowing much about different areas .

But of course , YOU CAN not ever satify a teenager in any new city . THEY do not do well with changes . I know when we had moved to texas for 9 months , my son was a junior in high school and OMG TEXAS to him was the END of the world . EVERYTHING was horrible about TEXAS , JUST like you just mentioned . ADULTS that move here simply LOVE it here , So maybe you need to stick to your friends like most teenagers do . I have a friend of mine that has a 15 year old grand daughter and she would RATHER never see her family again AS LONG AS she does not have to leave her friends . Friends are just that , they are friends . LOL

Oh by the way , Montgomery Elementary is only ONE example and a small example of what LAFAYETTE has to offer . , LAFAYETTE is NOT at all like you described .... I raised 3 children here and I have 10 grandkids and they all live it . ALOT of activities for all to do here . SO I really don't know what ALL you were complaining about , OTHER than wanting to move back . LOL

I'm afraid I can't answer this one, I'm considering the same thing myself. But I can say this, you might want to consider finding out where all the commercial poultry farms are located and eliminate that area from consideration. I say this because when flu, or certain other diseases, are found in a commercial house, all the birds within a certain radius of that farm are checked and/or destroyed. Just something to think about.

I live in northern Ohio. About an hour from Cleveland. hour and a half from Columbus. We are as country as you get. We have more Amish here than non Amish. LOL (NO I am not Amish) You have to deal with horse and buggies, and a lot of the little shops are Amish run so there is no electricity! Run on either kerosene or solar power. I do not live in city limits so I do not have anything to worry about. And the little town off of Millersburg..it's called Killbuck, well I know a guy who has a pet rooster and he has never gotten in trouble for having him. We have an alright school district (I will be home schooling next year but thats is just me) It does get really cold here and snow a lot but so far I have only lost silkies and frizzles from the cold. And honestly had I have realized they were that cold I would have taken them to the stables. Where I live it is dead quiet, you hear an occasional semi from the highway but it is not that big of a deal to me. I would rather hear that than the coyotes that live in our front field. LOL

N. Carolina, totally. It's beautiful, real estate can be extremely reasonable (there's a newish 3bdr double wide on my route right now w/ almost 2 acres of land for $35,900!)

It is beautiful here most of the year. We do have hot days, but our Falls are beautiful and we generally only get one or two days in the Winter where the weather is really bad. We *might* see two real snows (i.e stuff that actually accumulates) a year if we're lucky. I'm in the foothills, though. Further towards the mountains (Asheville, Waynesville, etc.) gets more, but oh is it beautiful up there!!! I'm about 35m from there, perfect drive and I love it up there.

Now, not all of my county is farming, but some of it is and it's beautiful. A lot of surrounding counties have farming country, too.

Let me know if you want to know more. :) I have lived here most of my life and love it here, in general.

Wow only $35, 900? That sounds great especially with 2 acres! How are the laws about keeping chickens and livestock? Do you have to have a certain amount of acreage?

Ohhhhhhhhhh ASHEVILLE is breath taking . LOVE the mountains

I love ND. The winters are cold but you really get used to them. They arent as bad as they sound.

Its rural where I live. I am surrounded by farms and farm lands. The small town about a mile from me has everything, grocery store, rx, dr clinic, chiropractor, dentist, hardware, etc. The schools are nice and so are the people. The cost of living is very very affordable.

There is a farmland across the road from me a bit. It has 7 acres with it, a huge Foltz steel building, shed and farm house (that does need some work) and the asking price is $65,000 but they will take any reasonable offer! and I do mean reasonable, they moved and have two mortages to pay. You could have whatever you wanted and do whatever you wanted and no one would complain (unless you let your dog run and then I would complain)

Fargo is 75 miles, so a shopping trip isnt that far away. What do ya'll do for work?

I only have 1/4 acre of land. ;-) As long as you don't move in to a HOA neighborhood or a place specifically with rules saying no poultry, there is no need to worry that I know of. I know lots of people (inc. myself) in the "city" limits with poultry (and one with a goat! ;-) ) and the guy I sub for is literally right smack dab in the city and getting some hens fom a guy I know. ;-)

Again, it depends and I can't speak for all counties.

If you want me to PM you with my counties MLS just to browse, let me know. :) Prices do vary, but it's absolutely a buyers market here right now. I'm personally serving way more foreclosure certifieds than I'd like to, lots of people are losing their homes and/or having to do short sales so finding something right now is not difficult at all. At least around here.
