Moving to Florida-want to take my flock

As hard as it is to leave them behind, at least you know they'll be going somewhere where they'll be cared for. Much better than getting them to the state line and having to leave them...

That is true. However, now I am worried as the reality of taking in 26 chickens is setting in for her and I think she and her husband might be having second thoughts........

A year and a half ago I moved across the country from Buffalo, NY to Jax, FL. We moved 6 cats and a dog. Here's what we did. We used big dog crates and put 3 cats in each crate together with a blanket in the bottom of each. then the dogs sat in the car. I think this could work for chickens. I bet you could put a few chickens in each crate - like make 4-5. They will most likely band together. Our cats all clumped together in piles while in the car.

Thanks operationindigo. I appreciate the advice and we may just do that. I am thinking more and more that they might well be going with us. As I think my friend is backing out of the deal. I have been trying to go the legal route but can't even find anyone locally that does the pullorum typhoid testing. Talked to someone that used to do it and she was told from her instructor that there has never been a case of this disease in chickens in Illinois. I am already going through a lot of emotional upheaval from this move and I hate to just lose more beloved "pets". Yes, I consider my chickens pets!
