Moyers Conventional Broiler & Hatchery Choice Broilers Ordered!

I finally decided to weigh an egg from my red broiler hold over from last year. She lays constant jumbo and well beyond jumbo. I may just have to hold over a few more this year.
Jumbo size is 70.9 g and over. Well here is what she routinely gives.

Absolutely, I would say 4 eggs a week.

The 50 hatchery choice have arrived. None died in transit. Only issue is I think I only got 49! I could be off and will surely update as time goes on. You think I could have gotten at least 1 or 2 extra. It’s cold and rainy here this morning so I lowered the lamp to get them warmed up quickly. It’s funny when you see the cluster move side to side as one. After about 15 minutes many were scattering and starting to eat already. Looks like I was given a few different types.

12 hours in the Brooder and you can see the cluster has broken up and they are running around drinking and eating. For 50 I say 49 chicks they are actually pretty quiet. People do not waste money on the red chick feeder that you see in the photo. As you can see no one really wants to use it. I took an egg carton and split the top and bottom as seen in photo and they much prefer that over the red store bought one. It looks like they gave me some Black, Red and Grey ones. Will be neat to see how they feather out.

I lost one chick last night due to piling. Not sure why really. Light never went out. When I went out this morning they were still spread out so I don’t see them as being cold.

They are in the barn so I guess it’s possible but not sure what would have done it. Maybe the goats wanted to see who’s been chirping.

So I sent Moyers an email 2 days ago about being shorted 1 chick. As I told them I wasn’t looking for a refund I wanted to make them aware of it. I said maybe they could put in an extra one when I plan on ordering later on this summer. Welllllll 2 days later and still no response!! Last year I ordered 12 fertile leghorn hatching eggs from them. Not a single one hatched. (I’m well aware of shipped eggs, and never had that issue) So I sent them an email about that last year. Again I had no response from them about it. I wasn’t looking for money back in either situation but some acknowledgement on their part would have been nice. So I’ll give them alittle time but if I don’t get a response about the current issue I think it’s time to start looking for another hatchery to deal with.
