MPC live chick ratio

Well in my case it was the hatchery's fault..they mostly runts and also did not put the heat pack in the box as they were supposed to..so that was negletctful..So, I personally would not use the MPC or the hatchery that MPC uses..but that's me. It wasn't the Post Office. And it was end of March so not like freezing cold but they needed the heat pack..

My MPC chicks are 3 weeks old now. I ordered 4, and there were actually 5 in the box, all healthy and peeping away! I have no idea what the mystery extra chick is yet...she (hopefully she!) is keeping us guessing! Anyway, I had a good experience with MPC - they did call the morning of the hatch and we had to substitute a breed, that was the only thing that was a bit of a bummer. But they were very nice. I'd definitely order from them again!

I ordered 12 chicks from MPC and they ship tomorrow. I am soooo excited! I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

after lurking here on BYC for years, I finally am able to get some chickens. I ordered from MPC on 6/30 - my order is supposed to ship the week of 7/18. I'm glad to hear of the (mostly) good experiences on this thread. I can't wait to get my chicks!!

I am a little concerned though, I never received an email confirmation from MPC - but I do see where they have billed my checking account so I know they received the order.......is this normal?

You will not receive an e-mail confirmation from MPC. If they say they will ship on the 18th, then that is the day they ship. That is why I like this company so much! There is no guess work as to when your chicks will arrive! If they experience any problems filling your order, they will call you on the 18th. I have my third order coming from MPC on the 18th as well.

We will have to exchange pictures! What did you order?

Thanks for the info. I'm afraid I'm just a little bit overly excited - I've actually lost sleep the past few nights worrying/wondering about my chickens! It is so nice to know someone else is expecting on the 18th

I ordered 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes and 1 Australorp.

My MPC chicks are coming to me in NJ on the 18th as well! I've also been lurking here for months, soaking up tons of info. and getting prepared for my first experience with raising hens!
I've ordered two Marans (one cuckoo and one black copper), a Salmon Faverolle, a Golden Laced Wyandotte and an Easter Egger bantam.
I'm so excited!

I'm hoping they'll all be healthy and I won't have any problems or pasty butt, but BYC has enabled me to be well-prepared!
I'm taking 2 whole weeks off from work for their arrival--this is my summer "vacation"

This is great! We will all definitely have to post when they arrive! You will have so much fun on "vacation" with your new chicks! As for the pasty butt, I read to let the chicks drink first when they get home and then offer them food. A couple of mine did get pasty butt, but I just watched and cleaned when necessary and it cleared up within a day or two. Very excited!
