Mt. Quail

We live in Idaho and my husband would like Mt. Quail, I see some locally posted on websites like Craigs List and I have done some research on the breed. Does anyone raise Mt. Quail? Have any pointers on why type of cage to build (sun exposure, on or off the ground, how big). What do most people do w/ their Mt. Quail (sell eggs, sell birds)? I just want to make sure I have all the facts before we invest as they are not cheap! Why are they so expensive?

The reason they are so expensive is because it's very hard to raise them up, like extremely hard. People who are sucessful at it have their ways that work fro them and hoepfully some will share

They are VERY difficult to breed, and it is not easy to learn how to succeed with them, or more would do so. Most of the market for birds, is to people who will try for a while then give up in despair after losing most or all of their breeders. It is difficult enough just to keep them alive. If you are determined, you might subscribe to the Game Bird Gazette out of SLC, Utah. They will have contacts, and articles which should be of help.
