Mt Redoubt Alaska

A sixth explosive eruption occurred at 7:41PM AKDT. The National Weather Service has posted a new ashfall advisory: http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php

Mudflows are occurring in the Drift River valley and pyroclastic flows were observed in the AVO hut webcam descending the north flank of the volcano.

Cyn, you were asking where we were relative to the volcano...

We're East of Soldotna about 10-12 miles, if you follow the red highway line, and probably right above the "o" in Soldotna (pronounced "sole-DOT-nah"). The people up north along Tyonek and the Susitna River basin are getting ash today. I think right now, AK-Button-mama is more likely to get ash than we are. For today, anyway.

I was all the way out at point mackenzie this after noon and saw NO ashfall! there is no any in my back yard either... I think that the AVO folks are pullin my chain!!! I dont see anything!!!! I kind of want to too!!! after all this hub bub I want to get something deposited in the back yard..... I would like to collect for the AVO too.. that would be cool!! are you planning on collecting a sample Tori?

I'm just grateful that the cook inlet sits between you and that mountain, but 70 miles is not that far away if it decides to pull a St. Helens on you. Glad you have food and water.

Do you have an evacuation plan to head north, just in case?

Nope... I don't think she'll blow like that, but there's no way we could gather all the animals in time so we're just hunkered down here. Things are quiet this morning and the ash advisory is cancelled, so unless she burps again we may be in the clear.

Cool photo of the ashfall from the mountain... We're down about an inch above the 25 mile mark on the scale, southwest of Anchorage.
