I was told my muscovy female is a mule , not sure what this means, new to ducks, but want a duck that can produce fertile eggs to hatch, can she do this/?
if so what kind of male do in need?

and if not , what is the best ducks to try to raise to hatch eggs off of?

thanks, angie

Muscovies when cross bred are not fertile. She will lay you eggs but those eggs aren't hatchable.

You need pure muscovy duck and drake pairing to raise more muscovies.

I agree with Miss Prissy. If she is a mule ,she is not a purebred Muscovy duck. Muscovies are the best broodies not the best egglayers. You could get other ducks and use her as a surrogate momma. Either get some more scovies or if you want loads of eggs to hatch get some runners or khaki camphells.

I agree...she would make a great broody for a khaki, runner, or even a buff.

thanks for the great anwsers, if i do want to raise muscovies , is there any way i can tell a pure breed, on male and female, small community around here , so you never know what they tell you is going to be true or not, ( sad to say) i like all my chickens and ducks to be pure bred.

thanks, angie

Lol, yeah mules and or hinnies are infertile, BUT are the best BROODIES ever!!!!

With muscovies there is no way around , they have to be purebred to be fertile.
