mummy to be

Heya, just got in from work and no 5 has hatched but Angus had to help it. It was bleeding quite abit apparently from its belly and the shell had a bit of blood in it. It's very weak. Poor thing is exhausted the shell was really hard. There's a little bit of red stuff attached to its umbilical cord (at least that's what I think it is). I've put it in with the others and it's eating a few crumbs of food. It's not holding its head up for long.
All the others are healthy and happy and eating and getting it everywhere! And drinking phew!
How is your day going? You doing ok?

Alright!! How neat! All your babies hatched. Good thing you didn't get all twelve eggs. Hope five gets better and stronger. I am doing pretty good-a busy day today, getting ready to go on a getaway trip with the family so you and your duckies will be on your own for a bit but I am sure you'll do fine!

I have seen that, I think it is just the break from the yolk sac-may have hatched a tad early. And good thing those are not your hands!

Aw that's cool. When and where are you going? Hope you have a nice time. Sometime it does you good to getaway and have a change of scenery.
Glad no 5's belly is nothing to worry about.
Do you have any experience vent sexing? I've heard its best to do it at day 2 which would be now for 2 if them.
Also I've heard you can let them have a little paddle from now too. Any thoughts?
This made me laugh! Ha! How is that little one doing?

Hehe glad you laughed! Yeh lil one is ok thanks, still abit wibbly but I think it'll be ok. Well fingers crossed. See what the morning brings.

Leaving tomorrow and headed to the coast. Should be a lot of fun.going to a salt marsh as well and never been to one of those! Watch out Alligators.
I have never vent sexed mine-always been afraid of hurting them, I have found the girls usually talk more than the boys. At least mine do. Mine go swimming all the time-I would let them get a few days old and then in warm water they should be fine. Also if you let them on the ground they will follow you around all over the place, I let mine follow when I do my outside chores!

That's so cool that they follow you. I'm worried they don't like me anymore! The first 2 would cheep at me as soon as I moved away. Since the others have come along they don't do that and they all run away when we go to say hey. Just read today that runners can be quite timid and scared. But that they are also excitable! I have a day off tomorrow so will spend some time with them.
I have to confess we put the oldest two in some warm water for a couple of mins tonight and they loved it! Dried them off with a towel and straight back under the heat lamp.
Wow your getaway sounds great. Not sure about the alligator infested marshes though! Didn't know about salt marshes, sounds interesting. Enjoy the beach and hopefully the sunshine! I'm assuming you have sun judging from the temperatures you were giving me the other day!
Anywho I'm off to bed am pooped and so glad all the hatchings over. Fingers crossed for no.5 in the morning.
Take care and have a lovely time away, night night x x x x

Goodnight Beth! It is fun to let them swim and play! Mine get scared like that to, especially once they have friends, getting them out and spending time will help, the walking with them seems to do a lot for the bonding. Hopefully I wont get eaten and you shall hear from me in a few days. I'll post a bon voyage tomorrow. Do you think being the only man on our other thread has finally gone to Bill's head? Daughters?!?!? Half Joking, enjoy your night!
