Murderous chickens attack & kill crow - is this normal?

The crow might have been trying to kill the chicks or something. I know broody hens and roosters will go after predators but not usually normal hens. Anyway good for them for defending their territory

When I had only 2 hens (no rooster), both of them went broody and raised a bunch of chicks together. They tried to kill my neighbor cats.
I witnessed the dominant hen hiding behind a bush, waiting for the cat to jump the fence, and try to ambush him.
The cats never dared to put a foot in my property again. Sad because I really liked those cats.

Yea broody hens can be pretty aggressive mine have gone after hawks before

I've seen some of my flock chase off crows before... We had one particularly outgoing crow who my mom trained to come for eggs (in the people yard, it was the dirty eggs), kinda crazy seeing them pick up a whole egg in their beak and fly off.
Anyway, it was a hot dry spell and the crow kept trying to land at the chicken water bucket for a refreshing beverage. The roo was predictably on guard against an aerial threat and wouldn't let Mr. Crow land. Finally he decided to outwit Mr. Roo by landing first and hopping across the yard towards the bucket. Then comes a bold pullet to defend the beverages, and after a bit of fuss some hens joined in. Mr. Crow was hopping all over the yard trying to dart around them, but the pullet had moves like a cutting horse. Finally Mr. Crow escapes by wing and sits up in the tree whining down at them. This happened repeatedly during the afternoon for weeks, but I don't think he ever got a sip from our bucket.
I felt kinda bad for him and thought of making his own beverage station, but didn't want to encourage him any worse for flock contagion reasons. They sure are helpful for getting rid of hawks though.
