I guess i wanted to ask how everyone's shipments were going but hesitated. My of coerce ordered from McMurry ducklings came from Metzers and arrived on Wend all heathy. they are all doing great. Is the imbargo of shipping day old over now? I know the notice on USPS is not there anymore. Hope all got there chicks or other birds but is anyone stuck in the middle of this still having issues. Just asking?

I have a duck order for mid April from McMurray and specifically choose them since they weren't too far away from me. I had no idea they would be coming from California so the fact that your order arrived safely makes me feel a bit better.......

I received my march 1st order from McMurray of coerce actually from Metzers in California without issue had them in less than 2 days (Colorado). 2 weeks later we had one of our worse snow storms ever and another girl on our Facebook group her ducks were received DOA 5 days in transit and hear broken. Metzers shipped the ducks with only one grow gel cup and never checked the airport closings we had for 2 days. I shared 3 of my runners I received with her since her brooder and heart were empty. I have 12 more coming from Johnsosns waterfowl fingers crossed. Another girl is waiting for for my duckling to hatch hers also didnt make it through the storm. I think what I find the saddest about all of this is that they didn't check the weather... It seems to be the luck of the draw and concern of the shippers... these 2 losses cant be put on the post office. But then what would we do without the haturys. In many cases we would have to drive for a day or two just to get the birds we are looking for. That transportation would be hard on the babys also. Just my silly thoughts.

You are so lucky in the US to have hatcheries I’m in the UK and in London we don’t have hatcheries. I have to either drive for hours to get one breed of bird and then drive else where for another. I’m a first timer and today is my hatch day. I ordered my eggs of eBay 6 out of 9 were fertile and are now hatching. So excited

Hatching is sooo special I wish you great fun with it... UK has lots of challenges this year are you still under the bird flue restrictions...

The restrictions are being lifted this week on 31st March. The lockdown we’ve been under had presented so many challenges and anxieties. I miss being in the office and having a coffee with a colleague or friend, but for now my lovely silkie and other 5 chicks will keep me company as I’m working from home. I was the one in my house that put my foot down to say I’m having chickens, but now that they all hatched on Friday and yesterday my partner and my 13 year old son are mesmerised and in love with the chicks. I can see why it is addictive

Yes! All six arrived safe and sound, although the little runt was a bit tired and not as active as the rest but I gave some vitamins and she was doing well by the end of the day. They were shipped Tuesday and arrived on a Friday which made me crazy. I lost one on day three for no reason that I could see, was dead when I woke up, so I have no idea what happened there. They are now 4 weeks old tomorrow and I had to move them out of the brooder and into a kiddie pool for more room with an attached cover for housecat safety. I love the zoomies but I forgot how messy ducks can be. Who ever thought of using the milk jugs is a genius, especially over a drain grate! All they did was go thru gallons a water with a regular chick waterer by playing in it and getting everything soaked. It's been unseasonably cold here so they have only been outside a couple times. Here they are after moving into their new digs this morning.

Next week is my new flock arrival date! Everything is ready and I am as excited as the first time I mail ordered chicks from Murray McMurray in the 1970's! Set up a huge dog kennel converted to brooder this time, set up on a wide tool stand at waist height. Built a new adjustable mother hen type heating pad brooder, with a back up heat lamp as well. The 3 sided, run in pony shed conversion to coop is finished , except for the nest boxes and is freshly painted barn red. I transplanted an established Cascade Hops vine to the south side of the covered run and gourd vine seeds on the eastside have been planted( the run is east of the coop). I am going to talk to the local post office staff Monday. Waiting these 5 months since I ordered has been, well - long! But at the pace I work these days, I am glad I allowed myself the time to get the new set up ready. Murray McMurray Hatchery has never let me down, from that first time to now, I feel confident in them to ship healthy chicks. I will be anxious till they arrive and are settled in, as usual!
