Murray McMurray hatchery???????

My order went great! I think it really helps ordering so many chicks at once. I had no DOA's and only one died from being weak on the first day. I still have a lot of them today and sold many to other people, so I'd say I'd order from them again!

McMurray's has always been reliable for me. I have ordered equipment and supplies from them over the years, though only one order of chicks (which arrived promptly, 100% alive and all of them lived and grew up nicely... and there were lots of nice "filler" bantam cockerels added). Dealing with their customer service staff on the phone has always been pleasant - they have been professional and courteous.

I have ordered from them 3 times and some of the birds are great and some are just ok. 2 of my orders had one dead chick, but California is very far from the hatchery.

Last year I ordered pullets only and out of 33 chicks 7 were roosters so I was not very happy about that.

McMurray will refund for roosters if you are over the sexing guarantee, most are 90-95% accuracy guaranteed. I lost 4 out of 40 with my last order (ordered 30) and was still refunded for the 4 that died. My extras were not roosters, but leghorn pullets. I ordered assorted rare and have several pairs, lots of pullets, and no lone roos.

I sent them a message about the roosters and got no reply. I ordered again this year and no roosters with my pullets.

I am very happy with my chicks from McMurray. They are a week old today and are bouncy happy little bundles. One did die shortly after arrival. It seemed to be injured from the trip. They were very prompt in refunding money. I have already reordered from them to replace the one that died and to order some meat chickens. :D

Here they are in the holding basket while I cleaned their brooder today. :D lol they did not like the holding basket!

Which meat chickens did you order? I ordered 9 of the Cornish X Rocks, and have lost 5 of them in the last week... 1 I know had a heart attack, 1 had an impacted crop, and the other 3 just stopped eating, became lethargic, and died. These are health issues with these birds, and I was taking a chance. The remaining 4 are doing great, lively, and returning back to their usual selves... I think they had sympathy symptoms with their flock mates that didn't make it. They are 4 weeks old.

I got the cornish roaster straight run because the cornish x seemed to be a bit trickier to raise. I figured easy would be better for me first time around. I would very much like to try the cornish x maybe next time around.

A couple of my Bantam Dark Brahmas that I got last year from MM died and we sent one to UC Davis for an autopsy and the report found that the chicken died of a fungal infection that it had from birth. I noticed that this year they did not have Bantam Dark Brahmas in their catalog.

Perhaps your Cornish had the same fungus?
