Murray McMurray hatchery???????

Someone did a write-up on Murray McMurray hatchery and the one thing I found so interesting is that they say that the eggs are delivered daily from local farmers who care for the flocks. I wonder if the flocks are owned by the farmers or by the hatchery?

McMurray even has a video (

) where they state that the eggs are delivered daily from local farmers so the hatchery can provide the service of hatching their eggs for sale and broker the sales of their chicks.

I always wondered how they could hatch and raise their own chickens, it seemed like too much! LOL. Now I got my answer

The store I got mine from orders from Murray McMurray, and mine were very healthy and never any problem. Of course the manager will answer any question I have abt them and help me when I need to know abt changes in feed and such. I am really happy with my purchase of McMurray chicks. (The store was an Ace Tru-Value store)

Wow, interesting! Ace True Value is only a hardware store here in the city Sells nothing for animals at all! Though, they're very knowledgeable and helpful whenever we have to do home repairs, unlike warehouse stores, which I really like. I remember going to the true country in Texas with my future husband and being amazed with all the small family owned stores, etc... It was like a whole different world (one I really love) Of course, Walmarts are everywhere now, even at the ranch... but I got to see the little country stores before they disappeared (and they've disappeared). So sad

just placed my second order with MurrayMcMurray this year! (From Canada) 35 chicks last time (5 died)
And yesterday we placed an order for another 21. (Group orderings since we're doing it from Canada and have to pay the $75 for the export certificate. Might as well make it worth while!) They were great to refund me the $$ for the 5 we lost from the last order. Hopefully they all make it this time!

Well now they're big enough to tell what breeds they all are, the brown chick I asked about ended up being a Sicilian Buttercup I believe. Wish it would have been a Sussex. The Buttercups are supposedly not cold hardy, I would think Mcmurray would look at the shipping address before picking a mystery bird as I live in Northern Wisconsin. Oh well I guess I will see how he/she does. Right now I think it is a hen as it still has that color pattern but as it grows further it my turn out to be a rooster.

Mine are supposed to be here today, I think. Only I didn't call the post office ahead of time, so now I worry I missed my chance at getting a Sunday call in. I do hope they call me though, poor things don't need to be in that box another day........
