Muscovies in US - REGULATION CHANGES OPEN FOR COMMENTS - 10/1 update

I had a game bird permit for my turkeys wild eastern, they told me I didnt need it but it was wise to PROTECT my self. it wasnt a big deal at the time it was in Texas and id never have a 1000 sales any way.
was it 4 years ago that they took all of the APA presidents birds away while he was on vacation or hospital took him months to get them back. they bit the wrong man.
They may not inforce it and they may for what ever reason. Do any of us have the pull as the APA ????
tHE ISSUE is they have the RIGHT is this regulation is set. YOU do not have any rights under the regulation. If some one did use a weapon it would set us all back. They would place us in the same catagory as the pilot that flew into the IRS .

I dont need more big brother in my yard or life either. But as long as we keep crying for laws we might as well slip that noose around our necks.
There are alot of people who thought they were well hid and a angry neighbor turned them in. Selling them under ground wont last THERE IS ALWAYS A TALKER ......

You know back in the day, there were lousy people who lied didnt keep their birds as they should And every one knew. Instead of wanting a law they told these people to change they were banned from shows and no one bought from them. They either got it fixed or they went out of the bizz. Some times these people just needed some help. Now its get big brother, there needs to be a law for people like that. How sad

Thank you. I reckon there are other ducks and geese I can have without that intrusion, should this fight be lost.

Its a good fight and worth fighting - but not if it comes to that.

Well I have my muscovy ducks. I finally have some youngins coming up that look to be blue laced and of course a couple of blue eyed whites and a couple of pretty chocolates. I dont plan on letting them go anywhere. I raise them for eggs and their colors are cool They come running (rather lack of the word) to greet you with their feed. They are clipped wing so they can't fly even if they could get off the ground they are SO heavy. I have a coop with a creek that runs thru their pen. I live out in a rural area on almost 16 acres, on a dead end road. I don't plan on moving or going on the run with my guys but, I am all on board to make a stand on what I have and what I own for me and my kids. I don't think it is fair for anybody(goverment or joe smoe) to tell me what I can or can't raise to feed my family special in these times of hardship people are already facing. Stay the FLIPPING out of our backyards. We raise to feed our families. We are not raising nuclear weapons They are ducks. Go after the idiots not the responsible breeders/farmers. Trust me I have been Spreading the word all over our small town here in Florida (big on home grown stock) and they had not heard so I pointed them here and passed on the info to start contacting.

I've also been contacting a couple of local breeders and farmers in my area (Lapeer and St. Clair Counties) to let them know what's going on. One of the ladies makes her living from farming. She sells feed, hay, eggs, beef, ducks, geese, and chickens. She was already telling every customer that stopped at her place today. I'm taking some paperwork to her in the am and she will be posting it up at the Marlette auction (largest livestock auction and flea market in the area). I also plan on calling the 3 local papers and the local network news people in the morning. If it's a slow newsweek I may just be able to get them out to the farm for a real human interest story! Get the word out in any way you can. Post notices up at the local feedstore, TSC, etc. We need to make sure our voices are heard.

wow, nobody is gonna pay attention to that law. stupid law makers, or whatever. i mean, really, they are not going to waste their time going to every farm and bashing in the door. the hatcheries are gonna take that one hard. just ignore the law. it will be forgotten in a little bit. but just dont go commersial, if you know what i mean.

Davearoo since we can obtain feral muscovies. Come on up to Cherokee County and we will go a fishing
at the local lake that has 40-50 of them. Some are very beautiful birds. They'll come right up to the car for
bread. I've seen runners there, pekins, geese, and even tame white mice that someone dumped near the lake.
Seems like a dumping ground for unwanted ducks.

That is if one doesn't get in trouble for capturing them on Fish and Game lakes.
? Maybe ask for permission since they are nuisance birds?

I am selling you these muscovies as food. You may pet them if you wish.
I am selling you these muscovy eggs as food. If they hatch you must reserve
them as food to eat whenever you are hungry enough. Do not release them
into the wild. If you can no longer keep this food, please sell to someone
else for food.

Reminds me of SC in the 90's when ferrets could not be sold.
One says, "I will sell you the cage and food for the ferret which is free but,
they must be contained in this proper cage for 350.00." If you asked
about transfer from that cage they would say, "Store policy does not allow
us to remove the ferret from this cage or allow customers to touch
the ferret."

I updated the original post with information on why the new regulations were created.

Also, many people are talking about how they will just ignore the law or try to create loopholes instead of working to have the regulations changed. That is the WORST thing you can possibly do to preserve your rights to own muscovy ducks.

Frankly, I consider that to be the lazy and immature route (my opinion and I'm not ashamed to share it. If you want to argue that point with me, feel free to message me or start a thread in the appropriate forum on BYC - let's keep this thread on topic). Rather than spending a few minutes of your time to go through the established legal channels, you're actively suggesting that others simply scoff the law. Scoffing the law has it's place in civil disobedience as a means to enact change or preserve rights, but that should always be done after all other avenues have been exhausted. Bypassing any attempts to work things out in a rational and organized manner only sabotages any long term rights.

1. Changing the regulations requires evidence that a substantial number of citizens are impacted. Remaining quiet and letting others do the work gives the authorities the impression that there are not as many muscovy owners as we claim. I don't even have muscovies or have any intention of owning any, but I'm still doing my part to have this regulation changed by helping inform others and organizing the information.

2. Make no mistake, someone from FWS has probably already read most if not all of this thread. If they see a bunch of people that aren't interested in going through the appropriate channels to change the regulations because they plan on just ignoring them, what incentive do they have to try to change the regulation in a very short time span for people that don't care whether or not the regulation exists?

3. Planning to ignore the law is the same as speeding when driving. You can get away with it most of the time, but if you get caught there's nothing you can do about it. You're at the mercy of the authority that caught you.
