I can't not reply to so many things. I AM not involed in any way!!

First,. Stephs message that has so many confoundings statements, such as "poisons in ground water". The birds are being given alpha cholorolose as a sedative, and then targeted birds will be placed in a chamber where they will be gassed with CO2....HOW will that end up in the ground water? If it did...would that rsult in lawsuits? I would suggest you know more about the process do you do not state those innacuracies.

If you want the meat uesd, WOULD YOU offer to butcher it and provide it to the homeless, knowing (or not) that YOU would be the defendent of ANY lawsuits resulting?

It's a HUGE issue I do not agree with, BUT my opinion is meaningless, there are plenty of attornys who would file suit if a homeless person became sick.

If they sent the ducks to farms then all they would have to do is make sure the population doesn't grow again. Any more ducks they find they could send to farms, they could shake any eggs they find, tell people not to feed the ducks, etc. There is no reason they need to be killed.

My husband is a Florida native too. I'm a transplant, but twenty-two years should count for something! I still remember when the auto dealership on the corner was a cow pasture...I sure miss that cow pasture.

I'm only 19 but I was born and lived in Florida all my life

My parents talk of how much more rural it used to be, with lots of woods. Wish it was't so built up now

They are being killed humanly, they COULD go out there and beat them with baseball bats. They aren't suffering.

What Solutions?

If they were to give them to people, they would most likely end up back there!

If they were re-homed to a farm by OWLS, their wings would be clipped and they would *not* end back up there. Are you thinking they are going to stand out on the road with a "free puppy" sign? This has been thought out quite a bit more...

Its people who dump them who are the problem, how can the city guarentee that the people who adopt the ducks won't eventually return them. You might now, but are you prepared to adopt all 110 ducks?

I was born in Florida too, and can remember when the beaches were so pristine, no high rise condos any where, it was beautiful, remember going camping and the forrests were so pretty, It's too bad things have to change so much to accomodate us humans.

So what would you consider suffering? Not being able to live out your full life and enjoy all that is has to offer before you die? Right now they dont care what age the ducks are so dont you think that they should at least have the chance to have the life a duck should? And then be put towards something useful?

I've never been able to wrap my head around how ANY killing can be called HUMANE... I mean... it's the end of the line.. DEAD... now.. granted you can argue that being slowly eaten alive by raccoons wouldn't be humane where a quick bullet to the head would be.. but the end result is still death... and to my mind killing something can't be humane no matter how "nicely" it's done

now having said that we do kill our birds for the dinner table.. and yes I do still eat meat.. I just think it's odd how killing something/one can be labeled "humane"

ok so my mind works in strange ways... just how I'm wired... lol

by the way.. if I lived in Florida .. I would take them all in a heart beat..

There is an organization that has offered to take them all for free, farm them and clip their wings.

A duck with clipped wings can still be dumped.
